After nearly a year of silence, the latest news regarding the anime adaptation finds Knights of the Zodiac trending on Netflix. When the movie was released in May 2023, it was rejected by critics and flopped mightily at the box office. However, its sudden arrival on Netflix in November 2023 saw it rise through the ranks of the streamer's catalog due in large part to the success of the live-action One Piece series.

Though nothing has been confirmed, a spike in popularity on streamers like Netflix has been enough to spur a sequel, and Knights of the Zodiac might find a second life after it stumbled out of the gate. Mackenyu's appearance in both the film and the aforementioned One Piece is likely the biggest reason the movie spiked, but his star power could be another helpful factor in making Knights of the Zodiac 2 happen.

In an interview with Variety, the international producer of Toei Animation, Ikezawa Yoshi, explained that his plans for the franchise include several sequels to cover the huge content of the original manga: “We are looking at six movies as a package.” However, the first film's failure puts that plan in jeopardy.
